Satyamev Jayate

The ongoing season of the Indian television show 'Satyamev Jayate' has till now broadcasted five episodes on five consecutive Sunday’s. Every episode brings a different issue to deal with. The first episode of the third season was on Sports. How, sports can change an individual's life. How a person can bid byes to intoxication or tobacco intake when one person plays a sport. How much capable a sport is to give people a new life and how it is important for everyone to remain fit and fine. The show expressed how one shouldn’t play a given sport only to reach the higher levels, i.e.; the State level, National level for instance. If parents give importance to sports, only then children can go outdoors; take out time for physical training and exercise, or normal jogging could serve the purpose right. In the end of the show, women from villages came to receive medals, for showing good spirits for sports; when Saina Nehwal, the Indian Badminton Star, was surprised to know that they were achievers in their respective sports. Age didn’t matter when it came to sportsmanship.

The second episode of 'Satyamev Jayate' did throw light on the road accidents that happen every day due to rules that are broken, on the roads; be it with the high load of goods put together on the same vehicle, for example; trucks, tempos. Then, the game played with the sleep of drivers is also a matter of grave concern. These two reasons are moreover life threatening, for the people on roads, wherefrom these vehicles pass or for the drivers themselves who are in danger. Our government isn’t as strict in order to get these offenders punished and hence, the criminals; keep on adding year after year. Aamir Khan, the veteran actor who hosts the show, asked the audience, ‘If it wasn’t a murder?’. With stories of people who lost their near and dear ones due to the negligence of others on the road, it made one realise the shortcomings that hit the happiness of Indians. The data collected over the years, describes how road accidents are increasing year after year and how people don’t really care for the victims, who lie on the roads pleading for help; while cars and scooters pass by. There is no one to help one in such situations. This is the sad story, in India; that people are afraid to help, thinking that they would themselves be questioned by the police, if they helped an unknown person who was in need.

Also, Aamir Khan advised people to wear good quality helmets and urged the pillion riders to wear helmet as well. Now, be it a lady or a man; how did it matter? All that mattered was to take adequate road safety measures, on the road. It is for the people to understand the importance of life.

The third episode came up with the topic, “Accepting Alternative Sexualities’. In this episode, life stories of people affected changed public's perspective towards them; when they got to know how much they had to go through every minute and second of their lives; just because they were from LGBT(Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender) community. When their own families, neglected them and even disliked their presence around them. Even more, when they were being punished for something which was not bad. "It was natural to be what they were; neither was it a disease, nor anything evil." But still, the society continues to haunt the lives and dreams of people from LGBT community, who have made no mistake but are taken guilty of being who they are. The Supreme Court of India, moreover doesn’t care about people from this community, hence giving a reply that, they only form a minuscule part in our society. But, that doesn’t mean, that their rights would be taken away from them. Section 377 of the Indian Penal Court, that is against homosexuality in India is baseless. It came first to India with the Britishers in the year 1860 and continues to be in India still. The Britishers changed this law in their country 50 years back but India is still there, overlooking the need of the hour. This in a way is a shame on 'Indian Judiciary System'. The Delhi High Court had sent the law amendment to the Supreme Court to pass it in the law books but the court disagreed. The 'Supreme Court of India' gave the statement  that 'amending or repealing Section 377 should be a matter left to Parliament, not the judiciary.' This is sheer disgrace shown by the 'Indian Judiciary'.

Just yesterday a case has been filed against Aamir Khan, for promoting homosexuality and that too is baseless. This time, Indians should really support the cause Satyamev Jayate has stood for. Let’s fight for it together, because unity is strength.

Satyamev Jayate.
